Covenant

The Bible's story advances by covenants: with Noah for the earth, with Abraham for a people, at Sinai for a nation, with David for a throne, and — promised by Jeremiah and claimed at the Last Supper — a new covenant that does what the old could not. Hebrews reads the whole sequence backwards from Christ.
