Augustine in the garden at Milan
Augustine wrote his Confessions in his forties, as a long prayer looking back on his life. This is the moment in 386, in a garden in Milan, when after years of hesitation he gave his life to God. Alypius is his close friend; "the Apostle" is Paul. "Chambering and wantonness" means sexual immorality.
