Ignatius writes to the church in Rome
Ignatius was taken under guard from Antioch to Rome to be killed in the arena. On the way he wrote seven letters to churches. In his letter to the church in Rome he asks for no rescue, and he asks them not to arrange one. "Unseasonable good-will" means kindness at the wrong moment, and a "freed-man" is a freed slave.
