The Emmaus road

It is seven miles out and seven miles back. On the first Easter afternoon two disciples walked home from Jerusalem in defeat. A stranger joined them and opened the Scriptures until their hearts burned. They knew him in the breaking of bread, and they went the whole road back in the dark to say so.
