The Temple in Jesus' Day

Strictly speaking this is still the Second Temple. Herod never demolished it. He enlarged and refaced it around the continuing sacrifices. What he built was the largest sacred enclosure in the ancient world, a platform of about thirty-six acres ringed with colonnades, with the old sanctuary standing on a raised terrace inside it.
