The Second Temple

It kept the old footprint and stood on the old foundations on the same hill, yet it was emptier than anything before it. Zerubbabel's temple was funded by a Persian king and built by returned exiles under armed opposition. It was finished twenty-one years after it was begun. Its inner room, so far as anyone can tell, held nothing at all. It is also the building we know least about.
